Why a gratitude page? Because the Säjai® Foundation has so much to be thankful for--and so many people to thank! Just by visiting our website, you've become someone that we appreciate, whether you're here as a potential leader for one of our programs, are considering donating to us or awarding us a grant, or are interested in the larger cause of preventing childhood obesity, as well as getting kids back outdoors again. There are hundreds of individuals who support us every day, through volunteering, donations, and actively spreading the word about our mission and programs. Please take a moment to read about the Foundation's partners, who have contributed time, money, information, or in-kind services to help us achieve our mission.
The Säjai® Foundation would like to thank the Northwestern Mutual Foundation for its generous contribution to help the children of Milwaukee Public Schools learn how to live a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to a grant provided by Northwestern Mutual, several hundred children will be able to participate in the Wise Kids® program during spring 2010. We're thrilled with the opportunity to reach out to so many more kids! We'd also like to thank Milwaukee Public Schools for participating in key research that will help document the effectiveness of the program with the children, staff and families.
The Säjai® Foundation would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Landscape Structures Inc., for its generous ongoing, in-kind donations to the Foundation. Landscape Structures has supplied many hours of marketing, technical, and printing services for the Foundation. The Foundation and Landscape Structures share a special link—both organizations were founded by Barb King, whose passion to help kids live healthy lives and grow up to be environmental stewards continues in the work done by both the Foundation and by Landscape Structures. Thanks to her leadership and the support of Landscape Structures, the Foundation continues to grow and teach more kids how to become and stay healthy, and how to take care of the world of nature around them.
The General Mills Foundation has and continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to leading today's children towards healthier lifestyles by their support of youth-serving agencies that run the Wise Kids® programs. Their support has made it possible for the Säjai Foundation to provide lessons about developing a healthy life to hundreds of children in Brooklyn Park and the Minneapolis YMCA Beacons Program, MN.
Alliance for a Healthier Generation
The Säjai® Foundation’s Wise Kids® program has been selected for inclusion in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program Resource Database. The curriculum was found to be in alignment with one or more of the Healthy Schools Program Framework Criteria and consistent with American Heart Association standards for scientific validity and accuracy.
The Healthy Schools Program provides real tools and solutions for schools to become healthier places for the 53 million students and staff that learn and work in our nation’s schools everyday. The Healthy Schools Program provides technical support to schools across the country in their efforts to engage the entire school community (administrators, parents and school vendors) in increasing access to physical activity and healthier foods for students and staff. In addition to providing schools with best practices resources and technical support the Healthy Schools Program recognizes successful schools through a national awards program.
All schools in the United States are eligible to participate in the Healthy Schools Program by taking advantage of free support and tools provided. Any member of the school community can help their school join the Healthy Schools Program by visiting the Alliance website at www.HealthierGeneration.org/schools or by calling 1-888-KID-HLTH.
Our thanks to Peace Coffee, for a donation of coffee and accessories for our upcoming Learn-Live-Lead event!
Special Thank You to Three Rivers Park District, MN
The Säjai® Foundation would like to acknowledge the contribution of the Three Rivers Park District for their role in providing naturalist and outdoor education expertise to the development of the Wise Kids® Outdoors program. Through the help of Tom Moffat and other key naturalists within their organization, we are able to provide children we reach with wonderful, accurate nature-based information.

Wise Kids has been selected by the National Forum on Children and Nature as an endorsed project! The Forum reviewed more than 500 proposals before choosing 30 national model programs as lead projects that will reconnect children with nature. Our proposal is to expand our programs to 500 communities across the U.S. The Forum and the Conservation Fund will assist us in fundraising to meet this goal, as well as increase awareness of our mission and programs.
